Health & Safety Guidance
As part of the Association’s insurance cover there is a requirement to advise volunteers who assist the Association on sensible safety matters. This covers those who undertake Road Steward Roles as well as Committee Members and anyone else who may from time to time engage in events that the Association may run.
The Association does not however provide any equipment or require any such items to be used, and thus electrical safety checks or servicing of equipment is not something the Association has any responsibility for.
Meetings attended by the Committee are held in the West Wickham Halls which are maintained by the Lecture Hall Charity, and they are responsible for the safe management of the premises and its services installations. Should anyone notice a defect whilst in the Halls that could present a safety issue this is to be reported to the Hall Management.
For Road Stewards the main guidance is related to the distribution of the quarterly newsletters to the selected range of houses making up the round being covered.
- It is acknowledged that most Road Stewards are acquainted with the houses that they deliver to, but they are to take care where there are uneven paths or steps. During winter conditions deliveries should be avoided when paths may be icy.
- If any houses have a dog present that is unrestrained or otherwise of a concern, the Road Steward is under no obligation to deliver to such property.
- Care should also be taken where low hanging branches of street trees are present.
- Should any Road Steward or Committee member have a relevant concern this should be reported to the Committee who will take action as deemed needed.
