The New WWRA Website

The new WWRA website is still under review & development but has enough structure/content to enable users to grasp how it’s form and functionality has been implemented.

It was decided to move away from the current website host and instead make use of the facilities and support provided by developing the new site with the blog company WordPress, this will allow a far more rapid deployment of content as well as enabling design changes to be swiftly executed via the templates provided for the site. By using a template based system alterations can be quickly performed with a negligible impact on content; this separation of design and content is crucial and should enable the WWRA to provide a far more informative platform.

Accessibility issues including ease of access, display on a range of devices, colour contrast and disability have been/are being constantly tested, this allows for the rapid rectification of any faults to enable the WWRA website to be assessed as WCAG 2.2 AA compliant. Hence, it is probable that the site will undergo alterations over time, these will generally involve real time, on-line changes that should not impact the sites availability.

Beside a new appearance, the content of the site has been structured in a different, more logical, minimalist way. This means the pages you see will be very different and the links to all sections will be available as hyperlinks on the separate pages and through a navigation menu in the footer at the bottom of each page. The header block at the top provides a link, at all times, back to the home (landing) page as well as a search function – this latter may or may not remain, time and constructive comment will determine it’s longevity.

In contrast to the old site much content will be delivered by ‘Posts’ (seen as news) on the new version, these provide a means by which new content can be quickly incorporated without the need to edit the actual pages of the website. Additionally, this functionality will allow a number of site editors to provide new content without the intervention of the webmaster aka my self – thereby reducing workload, stress etc.

In order to help organise local events a calendar has been setup.
It is possible for local residents to send details of events to the web site’s editors in order that they may scrutinise the details before entering them on the calendar.
